The Kavu Sling

I love bags and I’m always on the search for the right one. I don’t know exactly what the right bag will look like, but I know it will be comfortable on my shoulders and lots of pockets, and interior space but it will be small on the outside. A bag tardis if you will.

This week I received two Kavu bags, and I’ve come close to finding my tardis. Now Kavu has a bit of a fun ethos, which I’ve included for you…

KAVU is more than a company. KAVU is a philosophy and a lifestyle. The philosophy is based on the true zest and craving for life in the most positive manner. The KAVU way is dedicating yourself to making the most out of every second of every day. A KAVU day is a day where there isn’t a cloud in the sky and you can see forever. KAVU is the genuine pursuit of the ultimate day. A day that you pack more activities, more tasks, more memories, more laughs and smiles than you ever thought possible. Our goal is to make every day a KAVU day. We will never stop spreading the KAVU lifestyle. A lifestyle that is defined by, uphill challenges, happiness, unconventional thought, non stop athleticism, and living each day to its fullest.

Now that statement appealed to the me that thinks they’re a decade younger (ok maybe two decades younger), but mid forties me is much more cynical and knows that the mind is willing but the body is weak, tired and somewhat pudgy. And in need of a bag that makes travelling with a bunch a kids somewhat easier.

So I need a handsfree bag. These Kavu bags sit over your right shoulder and seems to nestle into your back in a very comfortable way. I can fit a lot in the bag, it has two large main pockets (with concealed zips) with an interior pocket plus two more on the outside front. The two large pockets are side by side, this means you can devote one half to the kids and the other to your own gear. A great thing about these bags is that you don’t have to take the whole thing off to access it, simply spin it around to the front from under your left arm and the main pockets are in exactly the right position to get at everything. This feature also suits me well for camera gear, easily spinning around to grab a lens to change out.

Another very appealing point for me when it comes to choosing a bag, is it has to be different. I love my art and photography, a beautiful illustration can make me very happy. So I don’t go in for a plain colour when it comes to accessories. Kavu bags come in some many patterns it is hard to choose, these below are the designs on my new bags. I’m particularly loving the one on the left, in a pattern call Day Menagerie, featuring beautiful illustrations of mythical beasts.

With a few excursions coming in the near future, these bags will get quite a run, lets see if I’ve found the one.
