Minimalist Christmas

Santa is still a big deal in our house, and although I’m pretty sure the older kids know the real deal, they still go along with the idea because… presents.

However this year Santa is trying their best to be a minimalist, stern discussions were had with relatives that enjoy shopping, and we adjusted our own Christmas preparation accordingly.  We aimed for quality over quantity, but we all know kids don’t give a hoot about that.  They just want it all.

I have been trying my best all year to embrace some kind of minimalism and declutter, to give ourselves space to enjoy things. But with this many kids this task I have set myself is not going well, although I did enjoy filling the skip bin we hired recently with un-used junk we had accumulated. I’m not alone in this endeavour, this blog has some great ideas.

Given the struggle that is happening out here with keeping local businesses going, we did our best to shop local.  Hitting up the local electronics store for remote control cars for our youngest boys, and relatives will receive local handcrafts from the town art co-op.  I did have to use amazon to get Miss Thirteen a Kindle as she has become quite a voracious reader since starting high school, but I did hunt for an eReader in locally first.

So here we are a week out from Christmas and strangely I am prepared (gift wise) and hopefully on budget.  Fingers crossed for a calm day that isn’t hotter than the oven.  Merry Christmas!
