A wedding anniversary means a big holiday right? Twenty years and half a dozen kids, that certainly earns a special trip. We chose Merimbula and booked a big beach house in a resort by the sea, because I really love having a beautiful view from my holiday spot. I think this is especially important for parents like me that often have to stay behind (due to autism/sensory/naughty reasons), that you have somewhere pleasant to be while you wash clothes, calm a kid down or whatever, and it makes it not so bad. From the porch we watched echidna waddle by, and dolphin leaping in the waves.
I discovered that we could survive as minimalists as a large family, living for a week with just enough clothes and a few toys and everyone was happy and had enough, so why do we need all that crap at home? We spent a lot of time hiking and swimming, there is a lot of places you can go that are not far from the town, Ben Boyd national park is right there.
If you’re looking for weird just the next town down you will find the Eden killer whale museum, or there is the Merimbula wharf aquarium/restaurant. Now if you’ve been to other aquariums, try to do your best to forget what you’ve seen in those before walking into the Merimbula aquarium. The set up is very unique. We packed our week with exploring culminating in a trip to the local amusement park, Magic Mountain. Already planning what the next big celebration trip will be.
